Garth Nix’s Sabriel is a classic coming of age story about the titular character’s war against the dead. Necromancy and Free Magic beings plague the world of the Old Kingdom. Sabriel’s job is to keep the dead dead, and to bind those beings who do not want to return to death. The book does an excellent job in the worldbuilding, especially the magic system. My only complaint is that I was not the biggest fan of the romance between the two leads.
