This beloved film icon is recognized by all who see his face. But many may not know all of the iconic characters that he played. Here and now, we hope to alleviate that tragedy. Via Google image search, here is the top 10.
1. Frank N. Furter – Who could possibly forget Tim Curry’s first role as the ‘sweet transvestite’ scientist in the Rocky Horror Picture Show? Although this movie was a flop when it first showed up in theaters in 1975, today it is considered a cult classic with an absolutely dedicated following.
2. Cardinal Richelieu – I don’t think anyone can rock a moustache the way that Tim Curry does in the 1993 flick The Three Musketeers. This glorified Renaissance Faire of a film is a guilty pleasure for any Tim Curry fan.
3. Wilderness Girl – Honestly, this photo sums up exactly what we hope to find when we think of Tim Curry. His role as a wilderness girl in National Lampoon’s Loaded Weapon is funny as ever.
4. Pennywise the Dancing Clown – I think the greatest part about Curry was how he was always a convincing character, even if that character is a sadistic murderous clown. He continues to impress, even though we often get nightmares from his presence.
5. Long John Silver – No actor can really be considered one of the greats until they play a pirate in a Muppets movie. Although Tim Curry may be one of the only people who has that title…
6. Simon Doonan – Did you know Tim Curry even had a role in Titanic? Wait–did you think I meant James Cameron’s version? Sorry, this was the made for TV miniseries. It may not be what you expected, but it actually has decent reviews: it got a 71% on Rotten Tomatoes.
7. King Arthur – If you are looking at this picture and thinking “what the f is going on here?”, then you clearly have not seem Tim Curry in the Broadway production of Spamalot. If you want to see true gold, try and get your hands on a recording of this.
8. Darkness – If you are reading this and haven’t really been weirded out yet, you haven’t seen Legend. This movie is anything but normal (especially the part with the unicorns), but when you watch it you can also see our buddies Tom Cruise and Mia Sara.
9. Wadsworth – Possibly the greatest whodunit film of all time (and yes, that is a real genre), 1985’s Clue stars Tim Curry among many other great stars. The alternate endings of the film made it quite unique, and luckily for us the unreleased fourth ending is told by our very own Tim Curry.
10. Tim Curry – Who else could he ever play better than himself? OK, sure, I know this doesn’t technically count as a role. But how could I resist showing the cover to his Best of Tim Curry CD?
The simple truth is that Tim Curry is God’s gift to film. He is a legend walking among mortal men. We hope to be able to see more of him, despite the stroke he suffered three years ago.
Smartest guy in the room, dumbest guy outside of it.
